I directed and edited this short documentary for a digital video course in 2011. The assignment was simple. ‘Interview someone,’ my professor said. So, naturally, I decided to interview my coworker Bobby who spends his weekends jumping out of planes for fun. I traveled with Bobby to Weeping Water, NE, to observe his skydiving ritual. I went up with him on two jumps and sat on the floor next to the open door at 10,000 ft. On one jump, without warning me, the pilot banked the plane so that I could get a good shot of Bobby plummeting to the earth. Somehow, I managed to stay in the plane and hang on to my camera. I always like to try to push the limits of assignments – to think outside the box – and I am very proud of how this particular project turned out.
