Dominican Republic, 2005
I took these photographs using a disposable Kodak camera while on a service trip to the Dominican Republic when I was 16. I traveled with eight girls from my high school and two chaperones. We spent two weeks in the DR learning about the culture, opening our eyes to a different way of life, and helping a community finish the construction of their school. I came back changed. These are some of my favorite photographs that I have ever made. They were the first photographs I made that meant something, and they are a continual reminder that the gear does not make the photograph, the photographer does.
